The challenge

Our client, a U.S. listed energy company, required a senior lawyer to backfill a permanent team member. Initially, the client sought a lawyer with a background in commercial infrastructure, however, we identified a banking and finance lawyer with a strong interest in diversifying their experience in the energy sector. The challenge was to convince the client of the suitability of this candidate despite their different background.

What we did

We addressed the client's concerns and demonstrated the consultant's versatility, sound legal judgment and solid training in top-tier international law firms. We also reassured the client of the support their Peerpoint consultant would have though us, including access to A&O Shearman's resources such as knowledge, know-how and a dedicated partner contact. Our team also worked closely with the legal consultant to ensure they were well-prepared for the client interview. The candidate was successful and the client was convinced by both their ability and the wrap-around law-firm support they’d benefit from.

The outcome

The placement has been highly successful and the client’s feedback about the consultant has been stellar. They recently shared with the Peerpoint team that this experience has helped them realise that a consultant with strong private practice experience is what works best for them. Both the client and the consultant have also benefited from the strength and depth of the A&O Shearman network, with the consultant submitting approximately half a dozen technical enquiries into A&O Shearman as part of their support and commenting that they were handled seamlessly and quickly.

Thanks to the success of this initial placement, the engagement was extended twice. Additionally, the client has approached Peerpoint for more consultants to support their wider legal team.
